PRESS RELEASE: Florida Secretary of State Cord Byrd Completes Visits with All 67 of Florida’s Supervisors of Elections

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –

Yesterday, Florida Secretary of State and Chief Election Officer Cord Byrd visited with Liberty County Supervisor of Elections Grant Conyers, marking the final stop on a tour of all 67 Supervisors of Elections offices since he was appointed by Governor Ron DeSantis in May 2022. During these stops, Secretary Byrd met with Supervisors and their staff, toured their election facilities, and discussed preparations leading up to the General Election on November 8, 2022.

Our state is committed to the highest standards of election integrity which is why I am proud to have completed visits with all 67 Supervisors of Elections, said Secretary Byrd. “I was able to see firsthand their operations and the security measures they employ to safeguard the election in accordance with state law. The Supervisors are ready for this election, and now is the time for you to be election ready and go vote.”

Secretary Byrd made additional visits and conducted extensive outreach with Supervisors who were in and around the path of Hurricane Ian. In the week following the storm, the Secretary met with Supervisors in southwest Florida to assess their needs and make recommendations to Governor DeSantis for an emergency order. These recommendations are the basis for the provisions in Emergency Order 22-234 which ensures ballot access for voters in counties severely impacted by Hurricane Ian.

Florida Voters are encouraged to contact their Supervisor of Elections for information about requesting vote-by-mail ballots, early voting dates and locations, secure ballot intake stations, and voting at the polls on Election Day. Voters affected by Hurricane Ian may visit the Division of Elections Hurricane Ian Election Resources page for more information about their voting options.

The Florida Department of State and Florida’s Supervisors of Elections are committed to upholding the highest standards of election integrity. To verify the integrity of the voting systems used in the election, the public is welcome to observe the post-election audit required by law after each election. By law, the audit may be manual or automated. In a manual audit, a tally is conducted of votes cast in a randomly selected race in a randomly selected number of precincts throughout the county. In an automated audit, a tally is conducted of votes cast across every race that appears on the ballot in at least 20 percent of randomly selected precincts. More information about the date, time, location and type of post-election audits can be found by contacting the local Supervisor of Elections office or by visiting their website.
