MEDIA ADVISORY: Students Across Florida Compete in the 2022 Florida History Day State Contest

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –

The 2022 Florida History Day (FHD) state contest is being held in person today, May 2, from 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Tallahassee Community College where more than 700 middle and high school students from across Florida will present award-winning research projects in a variety of media including papers, exhibits, performances, documentaries and websites. Sponsored by the Museum of Florida History, FHD is an annual, statewide activity that enhances the teaching and learning of history. This year’s theme is Debate and Diplomacy in History.

Interested media can also attend the awards ceremony which will be held tomorrow, Tuesday, May 3 from 9:00 –11:30 a.m. at the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center. First and second place state contest winners will represent Florida at the National History Day contest in June.

Florida History Day is part of National History Day (NHD). NHD was established in 1974 to promote history in the classroom by offering students the means and encouragement to research people, ideas, and events of the past. The 2021–22 theme is Debate and Diplomacy in History. After analyzing and interpreting the information they have gathered, students present their findings in a paper, exhibit, performance, documentary, or website.
