MEDIA ADVISORY: Launch of Victory Florida Campaign Aboard the U.S.S. Wasp
Port Everglades –
On Saturday, May 9 Florida Secretary of State Ken Detzner will announce the international launch of Victory Florida, a campaign recognizing 70 years since the ending of World War II. Prior to the event at 10:00 a.m., Secretary Detzner will join the Consul General of France in Miami, the Honorable Philippe Létrilliart, in recognizing U.S. WWII veterans who fought in the European campaign.

Media members wishing to visit Port Everglades MUST have a valid, state-issued, photo identification card, such as a driver’s license, as well as an organizational identification card that clearly identifies the holder as media. Those two forms of identification are required for every person in the media party visiting the port. There are very strict security requirements to obtain access to Port Everglades. Impromptu media arriving at the gate will be delayed until approval from Fleet Week security and Fleet Week public affairs. Arriving 30 minutes prior to the start time of the event is recommended. |

August 15, 2015, marks the 70 year anniversary of V-Day, or Victory Day, which marked the end of World War II in 1945. The Florida Department of State is drawing attention to this important anniversary during 2015 with the campaign Victory Florida, which honors and celebrates the heroes and heroines of World War II while educating Floridians about the important role our state played on the battlefield and on the home front.
There are many statewide organizational partners including museums, historical sites and memorials who are promoting the campaign. These statewide partners are planning events year round to honor WWII veterans and tell the story of Florida during WWII.
