Mission San Luis Introduces Online Virtual Tour

Tallahassee –

Visitors to The Florida Department of State’s Mission San Luis website are invited to explore the property and history of the Mission as never seen before – through an online 360 degree virtual tour available at MissionSanLuis.org/VirtualTour. The virtual tour is a cutting edge curatorial resource that can be accessed online from anywhere in the world.  With smartphone, desktop and tablet compatibility, the new Mission San Luis virtual tour provides users an exclusive opportunity to interact with history.

“The virtual tour is a technologically advanced resource that shares the power of Mission San Luis with people around the globe,” said Secretary of State Ken Detzner. “This new digital resource makes this National Historic Landmark accessible to all.”

Visitors to the interactive virtual tour are introduced to the Mission San Luis site in Tallahassee, which was recreated based upon archaeological excavations conducted in the 1990s. Structured around an interactive map, the tour features exceptional quality 360 degree photographic views of each point of interest, and interprets the story of the Mission through photographic galleries, descriptive videos and audio clips. Visitors can use their cursor or finger to move around for a full 360 degree view, transporting them virtually into the space. The tour is available in both English and Spanish.

The 360 degree virtual tour can motivate those considering a visit to the Tallahassee site by visually allowing them to step into the space, and by providing information about the history and visitor experience at Mission San Luis. The 360 degree virtual tour also enhances the visitor experience for those on-site.

Funded in part by a grant from VISIT FLORIDA, the production of this virtual tour is setting the pace for the future of museum interpretation and tourism marketing. To view the virtual tour visit MissionSanLuis.org/VirtualTour.
